about:

Hi! My name is Sophie and I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2018 with a degree in industrial design.

I'm currently based in Brooklyn, NY and just recently opened a small studio and furniture business! All of the pieces that you see on this site have been explorations of many different themes and narratives over the past few years. I hope to continue designing furniture that questions the notions of not only form and function, but also humor, personality, and play.

philosophy:

I try to spend most of my time on this earth surrounded by stark white spaces, warm Floridian color, and Italian ornament. I am constantly torn between being a maximalist and a minimalist, but I have so much fun in trying to find a happy medium. I greatly believe in the importance of furniture and the power it can hold over people, spaces, and really, our entire lives. Also, we should all have more fun - especially while designing.

I am forever indebted to my discoveries of Memphis Milano, the De Stijl movement, and of course, the Bauhaus. I thank designers and artists Eileen Gray, Katarzyna Kobro, Ettore Sottsass, Isamu Noguchi,  Charlotte Perriand, Martha Schwartz, Michele de  Lucchi, Peter Shire, Michael Graves, Nathalie Du Pasquier, George Sowden, and many, MANY, more for opening my eyes to a world of really creative, important, and all around enjoyable design.

Along with my love of furniture (very specifically chairs), I have a passion for fine art. Whether it be Rococo or Contemporary in nature, I firmly believe that humans are nothing without art.
